In 1814, Charles Babbage married Georgiana Whitmore at St. Michael's Church in Teignmouth, Devon. Charles Babbage's father did not approve of the union due to Georgiana not being of the right social and financial status for his son and initially refused to acknowledge his daughter in law.
Charles and Georgiana lived happily at 5 Devonshire Street, Portland Place, London until Georgiana died in 1827 probably during childbirth, she was 31. The same year Charles lost his father and one of his sons.
Charles and Georgiana had eight children altogether, sadly due to low mortality rates of the period only three made it to adulthood. After Georgiana's death Charles remained unmarried for the rest of his life and raised his remaining children to the best of ability.
